Customer trip report: Our 15 days individual South West Haiti tour

As our daughter wanted to visit her native country to meet her biological mother, we booked this trip to Haiti. We knew beforehand that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would not allow us to travel to Haiti. The country has code Orange. This did not stop us from going anyway. We did not regret it for a moment.

Great guide

We had a guide throughout the whole trip. He knew a lot about the country and because of him we didn’t feel unsafe for a moment. We started and ended our journey in Port-au- Prince. A big city, the traffic is chaos, but an amazing experience. Here we did a city tour,  visiting the National Museum, the Iron Market and the Metal Artisans of Croix des Bouquets.

Jacmel, beautiful place at the beach

Our second destination was Jacmel. It is a beautiful place, situated on a beautiful beach. We also visited the Bassin Bleu. This waterfall is an absolute must: an incredible experience and beautiful nature. From Bassin Bleu we drove by coach to Les Cayes, where we arranged our own transport (motorbike with trailer/moped) to do some more trips around the area.

Meeting the birth family

The journey continued by coach to Jeremie. From here we drove a day later by car over unpaved roads to Dame Marie. This is the birthplace of our daughter. It is a lovely town, in the middle of beautiful nature. Our daughter met her biological mother here. Something that was a fantastic experience for both of them. They hadn’t seen each other for 16 years. Our daughter was 4 years old when she came to the Netherlands and we were able to celebrate her 20th birthday together with her mother and grandmother in Dame Marie. Her mother was happy that it went well and it was also the confirmation for her that her choice to give up her child was the right one.

Haiti must be seen!

From Dame Marie we went by coach to Petit Goave; here we did a boat trip and had a barbecue on the beach. Our trip ended in Port-au-Prince.
Haiti is a country you have to experience; the culture, the nature, the food!
