Itinerary

Day 1 – Libreville

  • Morning arrival in Libreville, the capital of Gabon with an airport pick up. Libreville is the capital and largest city of Gabon, located on the country’s western coast along the Atlantic Ocean. It is known for its vibrant cultural scene, lush greenery, and stunning beaches.
  • Start exploring Libreville by going to the Mont Bouet Market, Gabon’s largest market.
  • Enjoy a city tour of Libreville. See sights such as Stele of Freedom statue and the Presidential Palace symbolizing political significance and modern architecture.
  • Overnight stay in Libreville

Day 2 – Libreville – Lambarene

  • Begin with a scenic drive to Lambarene crossing the Komo River. Lambarene is the seventh largest city in Gabon serving as the provincial capital hub for Moyen-Ogooué, a town known for its numerous lakes.
  • We will visit the famous Albert Schweitzer Hospital, built by the Frenchman Albert Schweitzer, the Nobel Peace Prize winner. The hospital continues its legacy of providing essential healthcare services to the local community, emphasizing both medical treatment and a commitment to humanitarian values.
  • Explore the Lambarene market, getting a taste of the local culture.
  • In the evening we will go to a temple outside the town to learn about and witness the Bwiti ceremony. The ceremony involves the consumption of the psychedelic iboga plant to induce a trance-like state, introspection, healing, and communion with ancestors.
  • Overnight stay in Lambarene.

Day 3 – Lambarene – Pongara National Park

  • Embark on a safari on Onague Lake, home to the last population of hippopotamuses in the region.
  • Visit local villages, gaining insights into the daily lives of the people and learn about the history of the villages.
  • To finish off the day we will be taking a boat to Pongara National Park. If lucky we will be able to observe turtles nesting on the shores.
  • Overnight stay at Pongara National Park.

Day 4 – Libreville

  • After breakfast we will depart from Pongara and make our way back to Libreville, taking in the scenic landscapes.
  • Transfer to airport.
  • End of tour.
