North Korea – Group Tour – Labour Day

Come with us to North Korea during the Mayday celebrations. Labour Day is one of the most important holidays in the country. Koreans often flock to the park or take part in one of the parades through Pyongyang. During this tour we will also visit the known and less known highlights of the country. The tour can be divided into an A, B or C option.

NOTE: This tour is to be confirmed. At the moment North Korea is not open for tourism.

Itinerary

28 April – Beijing

  • Meet your group and get to know your guide in Beijing.
  • 5:25 p.m. departure by night train to Pyongyang via Dandong.

29 April – Pyongyang

  • 7:00 a.m. arrival at the border China / North Korea (Dandong / Sinuiju).
  • Those choosing to fly will depart from Beijing at 12 p.m. (tbc) arriving in Pyongyang at 3 p.m.
  • 6:30 p.m. arrival of the train passengers in Pyongyang.
  • Meet your Korean guides.
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

30 April – Pyongyang

  • Highlight: Morning walk through the main street of Pyongyang. We go from the Pyongyang Grand Theatre to Kim Il Sung Square.
  • Foreign Language Bookshop, the place to buy books about North Korea.
  • Mansudae Fountain Park.
  • Mansudae Grand Monument, the great bronze statues of the leaders.
  • Grand People’s Study House, Pyongyang’s library.
  • Korean War Museum, during the tour you will learn more about the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War.
  • USS Pueblo, the American ship captured during the war.
  • Party Foundation Monument, the famous building with the hammer, sickle and calligraphy brush.
  • Kwangbok Supermarket, the place to pay with the local currency.
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

1 May – Pyongyang – LABOUR DAY

  • Highlight: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, this is the mausoleum of the great leaders.
  • Mt. Taesong Amusement Park – Celebrate Labour Day with the Koreans themselves. There will be dancing, sports, games and you can join in the attractions of the local amusement park!
  • Walk to Moranbong Park, where you can have a drink, dance or sing with the Koreans!
  • Highlight: Special festivities, these are often announced at the last minute, but most of the time it will be a parade, circus performances, a classical concert and/or probably some other surprises. (optional: approx. € 20).
  • Juche Tower (€ 5 to the top), tower in honour of the Juche ideology.
  • We’ll take the Pyongyang Metro.
  • Arch of Triumph, a similar triumphal arch as in Paris.
  • Highlight: Join in / or watch from the sidelines with a mass dance performance with local students.
  • Watching fireworks at Kim Il Sung Square. (tbc)
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

2 May – Pyongyang – Kaesong / DMZ – Sariwon

  • Drive to Kaesong, near the border with South Korea.
  • Highlight: Panmunjon DMZ, the border with South Korea.
  • Koryo Museum, a UNESCO site.
  • Thongil Restaurant, where you can optionally eat dog soup.
  • Visit to the concrete wall on the border.
  • Ride to Sariwon.
  • Folkcustom Park, here you have a beautiful view over Sariwon.
  • Try the local drink makkoli (optional).
  • Drive to Pyongyang.
  • Monument of the Three Charters of National Reunification, an imposing structure across the highway.
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

3 May – Pyongyang – Nampo

  • Group A departs at 9:00 a.m. by plane to Beijing (arrival at 9:55 a.m.).
  • Group A departs at 10:25 a.m. by night train to Beijing (arrival on the 4th, 9:00 a.m.).
  • Walk along the Taedong River, along the way you have a beautiful view of the May Day Stadium.
  • Mansudae Art Studio, this is where the local propaganda is made.
  • Korean Film Studio, the place where local propaganda films are recorded.
  • Picnic at Mt. Ryangak.
  • Drive to Nampo.
  • Tae’an Friendship Glass Factory, the factory where glass is made.
  • Kangso Mineral Water Factory, a factory producing mineral water bottles.
  • Highlight: Overnight stay at the Ryonggang Spa Resort (with a private spa in each room!). In addition, you can have barbecue clams for € 5 extra.

4 May – Nampo – Pyongyang

  • West Sea Barrage, also known as the Nampodam.
  • Chongsan Cooperative Farm, see how the local products are grown.
  • Drive to Pyongyang.
  • Meari Shooting Range, the famous shooting range. (shooting optional)
  • Mansugyo Beer Cafe.
  • Evening walk down Future Scientist Street.
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

5 May – Pyongyang

  • Three Revolutionary Exhibition, exhibition about the ideological, technological and intellectual revolution of the people.
  • Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill, the largest textile factory in Pyongyang.
  • Afternoon hike from East-Pyongyang to West-Pyongyang via the Taedong River.
  • Highlight: Munsu Water Park, a newly built leisure centre where you can mingle with the residents of Pyongyang.
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

6 May – Pyongyang – Dongrim

  • Group B departs at 9:00 a.m. by plane to Beijing (arrival at 9:55 a.m.)
  • Group B departs at 10:25 a.m. by night train to Beijing (arrival on the 7th, 9:00 a.m.)
  • Drive to Mt. Myohyang.
  • Highlight: International Friendship Exhibition, see all the gifts received by the Korean leaders from around the world.
  • Pohyon Temple, a Buddhist temple.
  • Cave of Ryongmun.
  • Drive to Pyongyang.
  • Walk down Ryomyong Street.
  • Overnight stay at the Sosan Hotel.

7 May – Pyongyang – Dongrim

  • 10:25 a.m. train ride to Dongrim (arrival 2:30 p.m.).
  • Walk to the waterfall of Dongrim (you can swim there!).
  • Overnight stay at the Dongrim Hotel.

8 May – Dongrim – Sinuiju

  • Drive to Sinuiju.
  • Sinamri Co-operative farm, see how the locals grow various crops.
  • Pomhayanggi Cosmetics Factory.
  • Mosaic of the Three Tigers of Mt. Paektu.
  • Central square of Sinuiju, with the statues of the leaders.
  • Revolutionary History Museum, a museum about the history of the region.
  • Folklore Park, the place to mingle with the locals.
  • Sinuiju Art Studio, meet the local artists.
  • Bonbu Kindergarten, tour of the school.
  • Highlight: Visit to the Amrok Park from where we walk to the Yalu river. On the other side we see the famous Chinese/Korean Friendship Bridge.
  • 4:30 p.m. bus to Dandong (China).
  • 6:30 p.m. departure by night train to Beijing from Dandong.

9 May – Beijing

  • Arrival Beijing, end of tour.
