Itinerary
Day 1 – Rusuzi I border (Rwanda) – Bukavu (DRC)
- Meet your guide at 6AM at the Rusizi I border of Rwanda and DRC.
- Border formalities.
- Highlight: We will head in the jungle to be guided and have a briefing before the gorilla trek. It usually requires up to 2 hours of hiking one way, depending on location of the gorilla group and depending on how difficult is the path. After spending one hour with the gorilla family group, we will make our way back to Bukavu.
- After the gorillas, we will have a mini break and then visit a community project in Bukavu, the Panzi Hospital which specializes in treating people affected by violence especially those that have been sexually abused.
- After a full day with wildlife we had back to the bustling city of Bukavu.
- Overnight stay in Bukavu.
Day 2 – Bukavu – Idjwi
- We catch a speed boat to Idjwi. A major island in Lake Kivu.
- Highlight: On the island we will visit the typical coffee farmers. They make one of the best coffee in the world with simple farming methods.
- On a local motor we’ll head to a pygmy village. Here we’ll learn more about local village life on the island.
- Overnight stay in Idjwi.
Day 3 – Idjwi – Bukavu
- Time for another boat ride! We return to Bukavu on a speedboat.
- Once in the town, we will do a city tour in Bukavu. We visit a local market, Place de l’Indépendance and the art deco style Our Lady of Peace Cathedral.
- Overnight stay in Bukavu.
Day 4 – Bukavu – Rusizi I border
- We leave in the morning towards the Rusizi I border with Rwanda.
- Border formalities and end of the tour.
