Itinerary

Day 1 – Bujumbura

  • Arrival at Bujumbura.
  • Meet our local guide at the airport.
  • Transfer to the hotel.
  • Overnight stay in Bujumbura.

Day 2 – Bujumbura – Gitega

  • Early departure to the countryside of Burundi, with various stops along the way to enjoy the amazing scenery.
  • Enjoy a scenic hike in the Kibira National Park
  • Visit to a local tea plantation, take a short walk between the tea fields.
  • Highlight: Drive to Gitega to visit the Gishora Royal Drums Sanctuary and the Gitega National Museum.
  • Overnight stay in Gitega.

Day 3 – Gitega – Karera Falls

  • Drive south to Karera Falls.
  • Highlight: Visit the beautiful Karera Falls, taking in the breathtaking nature.
  • Visit the southernmost source of the River Nile on our way back to Bujumbura.
  • Pass through different villages on the drive back. If you’re lucky, attend a Burundi traditional wedding.
  • Overnight stay in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Day 4 – Bujumbura

  • Early morning start to make the most of a Bujumbura city tour
  • Visit the Explorers Memorial, where Livingstone and Stanley once met with the famous words, “Doctor Livingstone I presume?”
  • Visit the Independence Hero Mausoleum and Unity Monument.
  • Highlight: Head to Rusizi National park, just outside Bujumbura. Hop on a boat to spot a few hippos and crocodiles.
  • Depart at your own convenience, starting from 12:00 p.m.
  • End of tour.
