Welcome to our 4-day tour to Burundi, where we will take you on an unforgettable journey through some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes and historical sites the country has to offer. We will visit the Livingstone-Stanley Monument, the Independence Hero Mausoleum, and the Unity Monument. We will also enjoy the natural beauty of Rusizi National Park, Lake Tanganyika, and Karera Falls. This tour blends history, culture and nature, to explore some of the best of this little visited country.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Bujumbura
Arrive at your own leisure into Bujumbura, Burundi’s largest city and economic capital, beautifully located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Meet your local guide at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity to enjoy the relaxed lakeside atmosphere or explore part of the city independently.
Overnight stay in a hotel in Bujumbura.
Day 2 – Bujumbura – Gitega
After breakfast, we leave Bujumbura behind and drive into Burundi’s scenic green highlands. The route offers stunning views of rolling hills, rural villages, and tea-covered landscapes that have earned Burundi its nickname as the “Heart of Africa”.
Enjoy a scenic nature walk near Kibira National Park, one of Burundi’s last remaining mountain rainforests. The park forms part of the greater Congo-Nile Divide ecosystem and is home to rich birdlife, dense forest, and several primate species.
We continue to the picturesque Teza Tea Plantations near Muramvya. Burundi’s fertile highlands produce some of East Africa’s finest tea, and we’ll take a short walk through the tea fields while learning more about local production.
In the afternoon, we arrive in Gitega, Burundi’s political capital and former royal capital.
Visit the famous Gishora Drum Sanctuary, one of Burundi’s most important cultural sites. Burundian royal drumming traditions are recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage and remain deeply connected to the country’s royal history and identity.
We also visit the National Museum of Burundi for a better understanding of the country’s history, traditions, and cultural heritage.

Day 3 – Gitega – Karera Falls
Today, we drive south through the scenic countryside of Burundi towards the spectacular Karera Falls, one of the country’s most impressive natural attractions.
Explore the beautiful Karera Falls, surrounded by lush vegetation and dramatic scenery. Take your time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of this hidden corner of Burundi.
We continue onwards to one of Africa’s most intriguing geographical landmarks: the Southernmost Source of the Nile. Marked by a modest pyramid monument, this quiet spring is regarded as one of the southernmost tributary sources connected to the Nile River system.
As we return towards Bujumbura, we pass through traditional villages and rural communities, offering a glimpse into daily life in Burundi.

Day 4 – Bujumbura
This morning, we explore more of Bujumbura and its surroundings.
We begin with a visit to the Livingstone–Stanley Monument, a memorial linked to the journeys of explorers David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley in the region.
We also visit the Independence Hero Mausoleum & Unity Monument, overlooking Lake Tanganyika and the city below.
Head to Rusizi National Park, located just outside Bujumbura. Here we take a boat trip along the Rusizi River in search of hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife in one of Burundi’s most accessible natural areas.
Depending on your departure time, there may still be time to visit a local market or relax by the lake before your airport transfer.
