Itinerary

Day 1 – Malabo

Arrival at Malabo International Airport, where you’ll be welcomed by your local guide and transferred to your hotel.

The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to relax after your journey or begin soaking up the atmosphere of Equatorial Guinea’s capital at your own pace.

Day 2 – Malabo

Today we’ll discover the highlights of Malabo, a charming capital where Spanish colonial architecture blends with vibrant local life.

We’ll explore the historic centre, visiting Independence Square, the exterior of the Cathedral of Santa Isabel, and the Presidential Palace. We’ll also wander through the local markets and cultural centres, offering a glimpse into everyday life in Equatorial Guinea’s capital.

We’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before leaving the city for the Sampaka cacao farm. Here we’ll learn about the cultivation of cacao and its important role in the country’s history and economy, while gaining an insight into one of Equatorial Guinea’s most iconic agricultural products.

.Day 3 – Malabo – Basile Peak – Bubi Community – Riaba – Malabo

This morning we’ll drive to the summit of Pico Basilé, the highest mountain in Equatorial Guinea at 3,011 metres. Part of the volcanic chain that shaped Bioko Island, the peak offers spectacular views across the island and, on clear days, towards the coast of Cameroon.

We’ll then continue into the highlands to visit a Bubi community, where we’ll gain an insight into the traditions, culture, and daily life of Bioko Island’s indigenous people.

Afterwards, we’ll travel to the picturesque town of Riaba, surrounded by lush green landscapes, where we’ll enjoy lunch before visiting the historic Hacienda Marcos Obiang. This former plantation estate offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s agricultural history and colonial past.

In the afternoon, we’ll return to Malabo.

Day 4 – Malabo – Bata 

This morning we’ll transfer to the airport for our domestic flight to Bata, the largest city on mainland Equatorial Guinea.

After checking in at our hotel, we’ll set out on a guided city tour to discover this lively coastal city. We’ll visit Independence Square, stroll along the scenic seafront promenade, and explore several historical and cultural landmarks that reflect Bata’s colonial heritage and its role as the country’s commercial centre.

Day 5 – Bata – Djibloho – Mongomo – Bata

Today we’ll journey inland to Djibloho, Equatorial Guinea’s purpose-built administrative capital. Conceived in the early 2000s, the city was designed to become the country’s future political centre, away from the crowded coastline. As we drive through its remarkably wide boulevards, monumental government buildings, modern conference centres, and residential districts, we’ll discover a city that feels both ambitious and surreal. Despite the impressive infrastructure, much of Djibloho remains sparsely populated, giving visitors the unique opportunity to experience one of the world’s newest and least-inhabited capital cities.

We’ll then continue to Mongomo, home to the magnificent Grand Mosque of Mongomo, one of the largest mosques in Africa and an extraordinary example of contemporary Islamic architecture.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll begin our drive back to Bata, arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 6 – Bata – Utonde – Bata – Malabo

Today we’ll travel to the peaceful coastal area of Utonde, where beautiful beaches, fishing villages, and the Atlantic Ocean create a relaxing contrast to the bustle of Bata.

We’ll spend the morning exploring the surrounding coastal communities, offering an authentic insight into daily life on mainland Equatorial Guinea. Along the way, we’ll enjoy the tranquil scenery before sitting down for a fresh seafood lunch overlooking the beach.

In the afternoon, we’ll return to Bata in time for our evening flight back to Malabo.

Day 7 – Malabo – Luba – Batete – Eureka Waterfalls – Malabo

After breakfast we’ll head to Arena Blanca, one of Bioko Island’s most beautiful beaches. Depending on the season, this white-sand beach is also known for the flocks of butterflies that gather here, creating a truly unique natural spectacle. We’ll have some free time to relax by the ocean, while those looking for a bit more adventure can choose to enjoy optional activities such as snorkelling or surfing.

We’ll then continue to Luba, the second-largest city on Bioko Island, where we’ll explore its quiet streets and coastal surroundings before travelling to the nearby village of Batete. Here we’ll visit Equatorial Guinea’s only wooden church, an important reminder of the island’s colonial and missionary history, and take time to stroll through the village.

Our journey continues south through the island’s lush rainforest to the spectacular Ureka Waterfalls, one of Equatorial Guinea’s most impressive natural landmarks. Hidden within the tropical forest, the waterfalls provide a fitting finale to a day showcasing Bioko Island’s remarkable diversity of landscapes.

In the evening, we’ll return to Malabo.

Day 8 – Malabo

Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll be transferred to Malabo International Airport for your onward flight.
