Itinerary

Tuesday 3 November – Malabo

Arrival in Malabo at your own convenience, where you’ll be welcomed by your local guide and transferred to your hotel.

After meeting the rest of the group and settling in, we’ll head into the historic centre of Malabo for our first introduction to Equatorial Guinea. As we stroll through the city, we’ll discover its remarkable Spanish colonial heritage, elegant architecture, and broad avenues that reflect its unique past.

We’ll visit Independence Square, admire the impressive Malabo Cathedral, pass the Presidential Palace (viewed from the outside), and explore several of the city’s most notable colonial landmarks. We’ll also enjoy a walk along the waterfront, overlooking the Gulf of Guinea.

Wednesday 4 November – Malabo – Baney – Rebola – Bilelipa – Riaba – Moka

Today we’ll set out on a scenic journey around Bioko Island, exploring its rich cultural heritage, volcanic landscapes, and tropical rainforest.

Our first stop is Rebola, one of the island’s oldest settlements, where we’ll learn more about the traditions and history of the Bubi people. We then continue to the coastal town of Baney, before heading into the lush interior of the island.

We’ll enjoy a one-hour walk through the rainforest to the beautiful Bilelipa Waterfalls, hidden among the dense vegetation and one of Bioko Island’s lesser-known natural gems. Afterwards, we’ll continue to the picturesque town of Riaba, surrounded by green hills, before reaching the cool highlands of Moka. Here we’ll visit the Biodiversity Protection Centre, where we’ll learn about the conservation of Bioko Island’s unique wildlife and ecosystems.

In the late afternoon, we’ll return to Malabo.

Thursday 5 November – Malabo – Luba – Batete – Ureka – Basile Peak

Today we’ll explore the southern half of Bioko Island, where lush rainforest, dramatic volcanic scenery, and quiet coastal towns come together.

Our journey begins in the coastal town of Luba, before continuing to the nearby village of Batete, home to Equatorial Guinea’s only wooden church and an important part of the island’s cultural heritage. From here, we’ll travel deeper into the rainforest to Ureka, one of the country’s most spectacular natural areas. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by nature before taking in the beautiful scenery and waterfalls hidden within the tropical forest.

In the afternoon, we’ll make our way to the summit of Pico Basilé, the highest mountain in Equatorial Guinea at 3,011 metres. On clear days, the panoramic views stretch across Bioko Island and the Gulf of Guinea towards the coast of Cameroon. Near the summit, we’ll also visit the Church of Mother Bisila, perched at an altitude of around 2,800 metres, offering both impressive views and an insight into the island’s spiritual heritage.

In the evening, we’ll return to Malabo.

Friday 6 November – Malabo

Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll be transferred to Malabo International Airport for your onward flight.
