Itinerary

Day 1 – Friday – N’djamena

  • Arrival in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad with an airport pick up.
  • Overnight stay in N’Djamena.

Day 2 – Saturday – N’djamena 

  • At 9AM we’ll meet at the lobby of the hotel for a short briefing.
  • Highlight: Enjoy a full-day tour of N’Djamena’s highlights:
  • Begin with a visit to the National Museum for a deep dive into Chad’s fascinating past.
  • Take in the impressive Big Mosque from the outside, an iconic sight of the city. Unfortunately, we can’t visit the inside of the mosque.
  • We will check out the Our Lady of Peace Cathedral, a prominent landmark in the capital.
  • Across the Cathedral is the Place de la Nation (National Square). We’ll walk around taking in its iconic landmarks. 
  • Explore the Artisanal Center, a treasure trove of local crafts, perfect for unique souvenirs.
  • Wrap up at N’Djamena’s Central Market, where you’ll experience the local culture up close.
  • Overnight stay in N’Djamena.

Day 3 – Sunday – N’djamena – Durbali

  • After breakfast we leave N’Djamena.
  • We drive through the Sahel to the Durbali region, where we join the Wodaabe people in celebrating the vibrant Gerewool festival. Along the way we may encounter several nomadic tribes travelling around the area. 
  • Arrival at the camp and meet the Wodaabe. 
  • Overnight stay at our campsite.

Day 4 – Monday – Durbali – Guerewol Festival

  • Highlight: For the next two days, we will experience the Guerewol festival, a major event for the Wodaabe people. This festival is very important to them because it celebrates their culture and brings communities together after months of traveling as nomads. The Guerewol takes place at the end of the rainy season and is also a special time for courtship. Wodaabe men dress up with makeup, jewelry, and feathers and perform beautiful dances to impress potential partners. Besides enjoying the colorful dances and singing, we will have the chance to meet the Wodaabe, learn about their traditions. 
  • Overnight stay at our campsite.

Day 5 – Tuesday – Durbali – Guerewol Festival

  • Highlight: Spend the whole day at the Guerewol Festival. Watch and join in the ceremonies, surrounded by lively music and traditional dancing. 
  • See the famous make-up transformations and the rituals. Learn about the local traditions surrounding this incredible festival.
  • Overnight stay at our campsite.

Day 6 – Wednesday – Durbali – N’djamena

  • In the morning we’ll say farewell to our new friends and wish them luck for the remainder of their festivities.
  • We’ll spend the day driving back to N’djamena crossing through the empty Sahel region. 
  • Overnight stay at N’djamena.

Day 7 – Thursday – N’djamena

  • Drop-off at the airport.
  • End of tour.
