Do you want to discover North Korea as much as possible on our most extensive trip? Then this 14 day tour is perfect for you. We will explore every corner of the country, during which you will have the ideal mix of culture and nature. While most people mainly know the political side of North Korea, the country also possesses a number of beautiful nature reserves. Besides the usual stops of Pyongyang and Kaesong, you will also visit the relatively unknown city of Hamhung and the stunning Mt. Kumgang National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Beijing

  • Introduction to North Korea by our local Korean partner.
  • 5:25 p.m. departure by night train to Pyongyang
  • Dinner and overnight in our sleeper cabins..

Day 2 – Pyongyang

  • 7:00 a.m. arrival at the border of China / North Korea (Dandong / Sinuiju).
  • 6:30 p.m. arrival in Pyongyang.
  • Guided tour of the hotel and introduction to your Korean guides.
  • Overnight stay in Pyongyang.

Day 3 – Pyongyang 

  • Highlight: Morning walk through the main streets of Pyongyang. We go from the Pyongyang Grand Theatre to Kim Il Sung Square.
  • Kim Il Sung Square, the famous main square of Pyongyang.
  • Foreign Language Bookshop, the best place to buy books about North Korea.
  • Mansudae Fountain Park.
  • Highlight: Mansudae Grand Monument, the huge bronze statues of the great leaders.
  • Ride on the Pyongyang Metro.
  • Arch of Triumph, a similar triumphal arch as in Paris.
  • Korean War Museum, during the tour you will learn more about the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War.
  • USS Pueblo, the American ship captured during the war.
  • Juche Tower (€ 5 to the top), tower in honour of the Juche ideology.
  • Taedong #3 Brewery. (€ 1.50 per beer)
  • Overnight stay in Pyongyang.

Day 4 – Pyongyang

  • Highlight: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, this is the mausoleum of the great leaders.
  • Revolutionary Martyry’s Cemetery, many military heroes are buried here.
  • Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace, here we take a short tour and watch a children’s performance. 
  • Kwangbok Supermarket, the only place you can pay with the local currency.
  • Party Foundation Monument, the famous monument with the hammer, sickle and calligraphy brush.
  • Highlight: Walk to Moranbong Park, here the Koreans come to relax.
  • Overnight stay in Pyongyang.

Day 5 – Kaesong – DMZ – Sariwon – Pyonyang

  • Drive to Kaesong, near the border with South Korea.
  • Highlight: Panmunjon DMZ, the border with South Korea.
  • Koryo Museum, a UNESCO site.
  • Thongil Restaurant, where you can optionally eat dog soup.
  • Visit to the concrete wall on the border.
  • Walk to Mt. Janam, from here you have a great view over the old centre of Kaesong.
  • Overnight stay in Kaesong.

Day 6 – Kaesong – Sariwon – Pyongyang

  • Visit to the tomb of King Kongming, a 14th century mausoleum.
  • Drive to Sariwon.
  • Folklore Park, here you have a beautiful view over Sariwon.
  • Try the local drink Makkoli (optional).
  • Drive to Pyongyang.
  • Monument of the Three Charters of National Reunification, an imposing structure across the highway.
  • Walk along the recently built Mirae Scientists Street.
  • Overnight stay in Pyongyang.

Day 7 – Pyongyang – Nampo

  • Drive to Nampo (a town on the west coast).
  • Highlight: West Sea Barrage, also known as the Nampodam.
  • Chongsan Cooperative Farm, see how the local products are grown.
  • Tae’an Friendship Glass Factory.
  • Kangso Mineral Water Bottling Plant, a factory where mineral water bottles are produced.
  • Overnight stay at the Ryonggang Spa Resort (with a private spa in each room). Optional: Traditional North Korean roasted barbecue clams (€5).

Day 8 – Nampo – Hamhung

  • Drive to Hamhung, the second largest city in North Korea.
  • Short stop at Sinphyong Lagoon
  • Picnic at Ulim Waterfall
  • Highlight: Tongbong Cooperative Farm, here you can see how the Koreans work the land with the latest machines, we also visit a local house and a school.
  • Statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on the main square of Hamhung.
  • Walk to the pagoda for a beautiful view over the city.
  • Overnight stay at the Majon Resort, here you even have your own private beach.

Day 9 – Hamhung – Wonsan

  • Visit to the Hungnam Fertilizer Factory, one of the most important factories for agriculture in North Korea.
  • View the outside of the Hamhung Grand Theatre, which is North Korea’s largest theatre.
  • Former home of Ro Song Gye, the founder of the Ri Dynasty.
  • Drive to Wonsan
  • Swimming with the locals at Wonsan beach (€ 2 entrance fee).
  • Highlight: Walk over the pier to Chok Islet (optional fish bbq with locals). On this pier you will encounter a lot of fishermen.
  • Overnight stay in Wonsan.

Day 10 – Wonsan – Mt Kumgang

  • Wonsan Central Square.
  • DPRK Mangyongbong-92 cruise ship, a large old passenger ship.
  • Railway Station Revolutionary Site, an important site during the liberation of Korea.
  • Songdowan International Children’s Union Camp, where children from all over the world come together every year.
  • Drive to Mt. Kumgang.
  • Visit to the Samil Lagoon.
  • Highlight: Mt. Kumgang Natural Spa, optional massage or natural water bath available.
  • Overnight stay at Mt. Kumgang

Day 11 – Mt Kumgang – Masikryong

  • Walk to the Kuryong Waterfall and Sanpil Ponds.
  • Enjoy the amazing views.
  • Sea Kumgang, this area is in the DMZ and has beautiful bays with clean beaches.
  • Highlight: Visit to the Masikryong Ski Resort.
  • Overnight stay at Masikryong.

Day 12 – Masikryong – Pyongyang

  • Walk through the Masik Pass region.
  • Drive to Pyongyang.
  • Tomb of King Tongmyong, here is the tomb of the founder of the ancient kingdom of Goguryeo.
  • Meari Shooting Range, the well-known shooting range. (shooting optional)
  • Overnight stay in Pyongyang.

Day 13 – Pyongyang

  • Drive to Mt. Myohyang.
  • Highlight: International Friendship Exhibition, take a look at all the gifts received by the Korean leaders from all over the world.
  • Pohyon Temple, a Buddhist temple.
  • Cave of Ryongmun.
  • Drive to Pyongyang.
  • Walk through the brand new Ryomyong Street.
  • Overnight stay in Pyongyang.

Day 14 – Pyongyang

  • Flight to Beijing, end of tour.
